From the Jungles to the Cathedrals -Juan Carlos Ortiz
Through the pages of this book, he leads the reader on a powerful journey from his humble beginnings with an alcoholic father to the moment when Jesus, through two missionaries, transformed his life forever. At first, his mother resisted wasting any time on what she considered “nonsense.” However, the missionaries’ persistence in sharing the good news of the Gospel eventually paid off. They spoke the words her broken heart longed to hear. From that moment on, Jesus became their provider, comforter, and source of joy. Although his mother could not meet all their needs through her work, they always had enough in miraculous ways. As a result, what once seemed impossible—him and his siblings attending school—suddenly became a reality.
Later in life, as a young man, Dr. Ortiz felt a deep desire to serve the One who had changed their lives. He entered seminary, beginning a lifelong journey into ministry. Along the way, he was influenced by great international leaders such as Tommy Hicks, who left a lasting impression on his life and calling. Eventually, he became pastor of the Crystal Cathedral in California, one of the most influential churches in the United States.
Over the years, Dr. Ortiz became a dynamic speaker and evangelist, traveling to more than 65 countries preaching Christianity and founding churches. In addition, through both his teaching and personal example, Juan Carlos became known for his grace-focused theology, ecumenical vision of church unity, and empowering style of leadership. In a 1995 profile, the Los Angeles Times quoted him saying, “The key to our growth is that we delegate and empower people… Otherwise, the church is like an orphanage, and the minister is the head of the orphanage.” Throughout his ministry, he pastored influential churches in Argentina and the United States, wrote several books, and produced television and radio programs.
